Tolerance--Part II.

Dear Readers, I am passing this e-mail on. After all, I may not have any young girls to shop for, but that does not mean that no one has any young girls to shop for. I hope that by passing this e-mail on, I can play a small part in making some one's Christmas a bit brighter and a bit saner. In addition, I also remember the bad old days, when toy were very sexist--Girls were expected to play with dolls and dolls only. I hope we as a Society do not go back to those bad old days, but continue to advance in the recognition that each and every child (boy and girl) is an individual with individual likes and dislikes:

Ever shopped for your niece, daughter, granddaughter, or another young girl for the holidays? If you have, you know it can seem like the only options out there are super stereotypical little girl--all pink, princess-themed, and sparkly.

There are great toys, books and movies out there-- gifts that show powerful, healthy images of girls and women. But it can be really hard to find them sometimes, and with the holiday season coming up quickly, we figured we could all use some help making it a little easier.

They are not kidding. After all, even the movie--Silent Hill 2, reverted from the Heroine of the game to Damsel in distress of the movie.

That's why we're asking you--UltraViolet members--to help us put together the first ever UltraViolet Holiday Gift Guide: A 21st Century Guide to Non-sexist Holiday Shopping. It's a way for the entire UltraViolet community to share their ideas for the best powerful gifts, which will make all of our holiday shopping a little easier.

Nominate a gift to UltraViolet's Holiday Gift Guide.

The UltraViolet Holiday Gift Guide will be generated entirely by our members, which means we need you to nominate your favorite gift ideas for this to work. It's easy--just tell us about a book, movie, toy, or other gift that you think makes a great non-sexist gift for a girl or boy.

After all the nominations are in, UltraViolet members will vote on which gifts make it into the final guide. The Ultraviolet Holiday Gift Guide will be available our website, on Facebook, and as a printable list in early December--just in time for holiday shopping.

There are already a few great holiday gift guides with a cause that come out every year: U.S. PIRG has a guide to help parents avoid toxic and dangerous toys, and Environmental Working Group puts out a guide to help shoppers avoid unsafe chemicals at the makeup counter. But we haven't found any gift guides that are specifically aimed at helping consumers find great, nonsexist toys for girls (and boys). So we thought--who better than the UltraViolet community to create one?

But for this to work, we need to start with your best ideas for empowering gifts. Will you add toy, game, book, DVD, or other type of gift?

It wasn't the first time that the Hindu temple on the outskirts of Pakistan's largest city was attacked, and residents here fear it will not be the last.  VISIT SITE!!!!

ALL FORMS OF RELIGIOUS INTOLERANCE MUST END--We were given Free Will and a Brain to use--Not to Be Controlled by others or to use to control others, but we each are Free To Believe whatever, with the foreknowledge that others are just as free as we are and will also be accountable for their own words and deeds.

Trump Must Indeed Be Held Responsible For His False Accusations. After all, NO ONE--NO ONE Should be above the Law..

After all, need I remind everyone of the out-ragious, highly bigoted things that Trump said about our President, even after Trump was proven wrong and his accusations false--he refused to let them go--WE MUST HOLD TRUMP RESPONSIBLE--THE ONLY WAY POSSIBLE--HIS ((((((EGO)))))))

My name is Angelo Carusone. I created the petition urging Macy's to sever ties with Donald Trump. Thank you for stepping up and adding your voice to this effort! Thus far, your participation has created a tremendous response -- we have over 590,000 signers and our petition is all over the media. And, this is just the beginning.

Macy's CEO Terry Lundgren emailed me this morning. He acknowledged our efforts, which means we got Macy's attention. But, his response was disappointing. Macy's and Mr. Lundgren dismissed the efforts so far. They seem to be under the false impression that this is all about their latest TV commercial.

Macy's has it all wrong. This is not about a TV commercial or politics. Macy's does not merely sell Donald Trump's clothing. They have a partnership. Macy's helps develop and build Trump's fashion brand.
I responded to Mr. Lundgren by explaining that this is about something much bigger than a TV commercial. l also offered Macy's the opportunity to include an appropriate message in this email. Macy's did not respond.

I initiated this petition on October 24, right around the time of Trump's $5 million dollar birther stunt. I came across a letter dated August 23, 2012 from Macy's CEO Terry Lundgren to Donald Trump. Mr. Lundgren concludes the letter by telling Trump: "Don't give up the Real Estate business yet but we are developing a meaningful fashion business with your brand!"
This got me thinking about Trump's "brand."

To me, Trump's brand is consequence-free bullying and chicanery; mean-spirited antics designed to ride a media cycle so he can promote himself or his Macy's product line at the expense of others. And, here was the CEO of Macy’s promising to further develop that brand. This didn't seem consistent with my experience as a longtime Macy's customer. So, I acted and started the petition.

In effect, Macy's is rewarding Trump's bigoted bullying by building a business right on top of it.I know about bullies. I grew up on the receiving end of them for far too long. Then I learned to stop them and I never forgot how. Back in 2009, while in law school, I drew on those lessons as I organized the StopBeck effort. It was similar in that the participants were attaching consequences and costs to Glenn Beck's reckless vitriol. It required widespread participation and a lot of persistence, but it paid off.

Macy's needs to understand that they should not reward Donald Trump's bigoted bullying, but I need your help explaining that to them.

America's New Mandate on Climate Change

For Americans concerned about the environment, disaster was avoided on Tuesday. President Obama – with his somewhat lackluster record, if decidedly more exalted rhetoric, on global warming – defeated the Republican challenger who had vowed to gut federal emissions standards, and kill loan programs and tax breaks for green energy companies.
But activists say that it would be wrong to read the election as a stamp of approval for four more years of business as usual. They argue that voters have sent a clear signal that they want more aggressive action on the environment during the president’s second term.
The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) cites the defeat of three members of their “Flat Earth Five” – Anne Marie Buerlke (Republican, New York), Francisco Canseco (Republican, Texas) and Joe Walsh (Republican, Illinois) – Republican representatives who were outspoken for their anti-science stance on climate change. (One race remains too close to call.) And ten of the League’s “dirty dozen” candidates – targeted for “consistently voting against clean energy and conservation” – lost their election bids.

YES--WE MUST PROTECT OUR WATER. After all, I have been informed by my adult son--that leaving his generation some debt is no problem, in a matter of fact a good thing--BUT HE WILL NEED TO CONTINUE TO DRINK WATER AND FOOD, WHICH ALSO CALLS FOR FRESH WATER, SINCE IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO GROW FRESH CROPS WHILE IRRIGATING THEM WITH POLLUTED WATER.

Support of Environment--Part II--Ohio

Since the Ohio GOP Must Stop Practicing Medicine WithOut a licence, I am passing on this e-mail also for your consideration.

Despite the state of Ohio going blue for President Obama and rejecting Josh Mandel's extremist position on reproductive health, the Ohio state legislature is plowing ahead with plans to criminalize abortion without exception and defund Planned Parenthood, despite the fact Planned Parenthood does more to prevent unintended pregnancy—and therefore abortion—than any other organization in the entire country. 

Not only would the loss of Planned Parenthood lead to even more pregnancy and abortion, its close relative known as the Heartbeat Bill would make abortion illegal as early as six weeks. Most women would not even know they were pregnant until it was too late—leading to dangerous illegal abortions.

Ohio needs to focus on healthy prevention, not outdated shame and punishment. That's why I created a petition on SignOn.org, which says:

The people demand that the Ohio Legislature immediately retire the Family Planning Defunding bills HB298 and SB201, as well as the "Heartbeat Bill," HB125.

Ohioans are tired of the War on Women, and we're not going to allow the GOP to take us backward.

If the Legislature is concerned with the health and well-being of women and children, and if the Legislature is genuinely interested in preventing unintended pregnancies, abortion, and unwanted children, then the following bills should be advanced right away: 
SB 190 / HB 281 The Ohio Prevention First Act 
SB 232 / HB 338 The Act for Our Children's Future 
SB 283 / HB 419 The Compassionate Assistance for Rape Emergencies Act
