Yesterday I took to the floor for the first time and proposed an amendment that would, simply put, protect our nation's veterans and seniors from future drastic budget cuts to Medicare and Social Security.

Paul Ryan said that my amendment to protect our seniors and veterans was "silly" and "partisan." It's pretty shocking that Paul Ryan and the GOP won't even compromise to protect our veterans. That is why I started an online petition to Paul Ryan that he join me and protect our veterans -- because helping servicemen and women is never silly.

Rumor was that he filed for unemployment--Rumor was that this was the Real Reason that Bedknobs & Broomstix Cleaning Service went bankrupt--to avoid his workman's comp claim.--'Dan' Where ever you are--I am so very Sorry that I did not speak up sooner--One day I hope and pray that you and the Heaven will forgive my pre-occupation with working as many hours as I could because all I could see was the bills that I needed to pay--the only way that I could pay them was by working as many hours as I could and then some--since there was never any over time pay--it was $7.50 an hour--no matter how many hours were worked. However, this title was Ethel 'Jane's' motto--She insisted that if she could work in pain that anyone and everyone else should be able too--Even Though as said before, as Supervisor-She had the freedom to assign others and most especially herself what job who would do. Fake Protesters Offered $20 To Stand At Anti-Wind Energy Rally

Most Americans like clean energy. So when conservatives wage campaigns against clean energy initiatives, they have typically resorted to fronting astroturf groups and paying fake protesters to generate noise.
Needing 100 anti-wind protesters by next week and apparently unable to find them, a mysterious firm advertised a “quick and easy $20″ on Craigslist. According to the ad, the only thing the “volunteers” would need to do for their pay is “stand next to or behind the speakers and elected officials/celebrities” at a rally against a wind turbine project in the UK.

I am not a sci-fi fan, but I read this book when it first came out in the '80s, and it was chilling (from a woman's point of view, at least). Looking back on it from the 21st century, it seems even more frightening, since the premise of the dystopian society -- the overthrow of the US government by murdering the president and all of congress by an EXTREME right-wing supposedly Christian group -- seems not so far-fetched as it once did.

The USA has been changed to Gilead. Pockets of resistance are still fighting against the group which has established a society where women are completely subjugated.

Any woman who is still fertile (after most of the world has been so contaminated that fertility is rare) is forced to become a Hand Maiden, assigned to one married male at a time solely for the purpose of bearing children to be raised by the father and his wife. The Gilead society is so repressive, and so brutal, that the Hand Maidens and almost all women are forced to become silent and internalize all thought.

Offred (of-fred) reveals the minutiae and the indignities of her life in an almost anesthetized state. Claire Danes' narration fits the tone and atmosphere perfectly, detailing every day in an almost emotionless manner. This is an excellent book with exception narration. I recommend it to any and all readers, whether you are in sci-fi or not.

WOW!!!! I REALLY MUST EITHER LISTEN TO OR READ THIS BOOK!!!! BY Ms. Margaret Atwood, who wrote this book waaaay back in 1985, during President Reagan's hay day.  She saw what many of us would learn much later, the hard way, by experience; but she had the vision and the wisdom to warn us. Too bad, too many were as ignorant as myself, and failed to heed these warnings until it was too late. Too many fools such as myself had to learn various lessons the hard way, instead.

Bees have been dying off in the US at an alarming rate — nearly 30% of our bee population, per year, have been lost to so-called colony collapse since 2006.

Scientists have long thought that the pesticide clothianidin was at least partially to blame.¹ But the EPA has repeatedly ignored scientists' warnings and Americans' urgings to ban its use, citing lack of evidence.

Now, a blockbuster study released last week by Europe's leading food safety authority, EFSA, has for the first time labeled clothianidin as an "unacceptable" danger to bees.²

The EFSA study could be a major breakthrough to convince the EPA to take emergency action, and suspend the use of clothianidin to stop the precipitous decline in global honeybee populations.

In addition to finding clothianidin too dangerous to use on plants pollinated by bees, EFSA's study specifically identifies as too flawed to be useful the shoddy studies provided by pesticide manufacturer Bayer as evidence of clothianidin's safety.³

It was these sham studies that EPA used to first approve clothianidin in 2003, even against the objections of EPA's own scientists.⁴

The pesticide, which is used to treat seeds like corn and canola, expresses itself through the plants' pollen and nectar — the honeybee's favorite sources of food. Clothianidin is in a class of pesticides called neonicotinoids, which are relatively new, and their use coincides with the rise of colony collapse.

If EPA does not take emergency action now, it won't review clothianidin again until 2018.

Given the rate of colony collapse, and the indispensable role that pollinators play in our food system — pollinating one-third of our food crops and providing literally billions of dollars in economic benefit — it would be stunningly irresponsible of EPA to continue allowing the use of this dangerous pesticide for at least another five years.

Societal norms are a reality, and their maintenance is important to most members of a society. It is humiliating enough to relieve yourself in front of your male comrades; one can only imagine the humiliation of being forced to relieve yourself in front of the opposite sex.
And men’s humiliation will humiliate women:
In the reverse, it would be painful to witness a member of the opposite sex in such an uncomfortable and awkward position.
Oh, and unit cohesion, which apparently still exists even though it was supposed to go extinct the moment gays started serving openly: Combat effectiveness is based in large part on unit cohesion. The relationships among members of a unit can be irreparably harmed by forcing them to violate societal norms.

Of all the arguments, this is the one that I, personally, found most funny. After all, two of my former cleaning jobs--one at Lutheran West High School and the other at St. Paul Lutheran Church /Elementary School, both involved me, cleaning restrooms. At both schools, the biggest challenge was keeping the men out of the restrooms, no matter how many signs were up, no matter how blocked the door ways were or how many time this woman met them at the door; they would still come in with their sons and do their business; Unless there was someone standing if front of the restroom and tell the men that it was being cleaned and to please use another restroom, but even that did not stop all the men from entering, just because a woman was there--That Was The One and Only Effective way to keep men out of the men's room, who could not understand why they could not use it, just because the cleaning woman is there.  I confess all I saw was their back, come to think of it, I did not want to see any more than that. Oh, If only more men were like Ryan Smith, maybe I would not have had so many problems keeping the men and their sons out of the men's restroom, There Were So Many Times That I could have gotten my job done a whole lot faster if there were not so many interruptions.

Yesterday, I wrote to you about how Governor John Kasich's hand-picked State School Board President Debe Terhar had posted a picture to Facebook comparing President Obama's national dialogue on preventing gun violence to Hitler. 

Rather than immediately apologize for her shameful act, Terhar defended her posting, claiming it wasn't a comparison. Now Governor Kasich has come out to say she just made a "mistake" and he plans to look the other way and let her off the hook.

We need you to stand up today and let Kasich know Terhar's action are disgusting and entirely unacceptable. Please click here to send a letter to Governor Kasich and members of the State Board of Education demanding they stand up and ask for Terhar to resign as President.

Governor Kasich has a duty to show some leadership and hold his hand-picked School Board President accountable for her Hitler post, and for  failing to immediately and unequivocally apologize. "Mistakes" happen, but Terhar continues to justify the content of her post. We can't allow someone that has such a radical view of right and wrong to run our State School Board and influence the education of our children.

Stand up right now and send a letter to Gov. Kasich and the State School Board demanding they call for President Terhar's resignation.

In the face of increasing calls from other groups for action, another Kasich School Board appointee, C. Todd Jones, actually had the nerve to downplay Terhar's Hitler reference, stating the "Facebook post [is] in the lower third of the 'scale of impropriety.'" These comments are dangerous, and it's sad that the Governor continues to protect one of his political cronies instead of doing the right thing.

Take a moment right now and join the chorus of those demanding that the Governor and the State School Board call for Terhar's resignation.

With your help, we'll force the Governor to finally hold Terhar accountable for her comments.

Hartselle City Schools Board of Education: Deny a live shooting drill at F.E. Burleson Elementary

This type of drill, where a pretend gunman comes into the school with a fake gun, is mentally detrimental to elementary-aged school children. I believe a lockdown of the school is sufficient enough. No child deserves to be involved in a situation where someone is even PRETENDING to threaten their lives. As a parent of a 1st grader at F.E. Burleson, I believe this can only cause more harm than good. No one can ever prepare themselves enough for a devastation such as a school shooting. It is the parents' jobs to teach their children about these disasters as THEY see fit for their own child. It should not be decided by a Board of Education or any other group. I fear that this may cause serious, traumatic mental damage to these children, causing them to go to school every day in fear, WAITING for a gunman to show up. I believe that faculty and staff should have this drill on the weekend, or perhaps a Teacher Work Day, when there are no children present.  Also, the parents were never notified of this possible decision, nor were we even informed that this was being contemplated.  We found out through the news and on Facebook.
