Some Washington politicians are proposing a budget deal that would change the cost-of-living-adjustment (COLA) for Social Security and veterans' benefits, resulting in a combined $129 billion in cuts over the next ten years.
It's crunch time. And while the chained CPI proposal may seem as
confusing as its name, but when it comes to its effects, it could be
devastating. The Senate is debating how to stop the automatic budget
cuts scheduled for March 1 - and some have proposed a chained CPI
amendment that would slash Social Security by $112 billion over the next
10 years alone.
The COLA change would hurt seniors and veterans who are already living
on tight budgets stretched by prescriptions, utility bills, mortgages
and health care costs.
For today's Daily Action,
Use AARP’s handy tool to see how your Social Security or veterans’
benefits would be impacted if Washington changes the
cost-of-living-adjustment!
The Question that I have is WHY?!?!?! After all, from my experience this past election many many seniors were very proud to proclaim themselves Republicans who were Voting Republican--NOW We are suppose to save these Senior Citizens from the people whom they themselves Voted Into Office--I THINK NOT.

THIS IS WHY I BELIEVE IN BEING ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF HISTORY BY PASSING ON THIS EMAIL FROM CAMPAIGN FOR AMERICA'S FUTURE
Today, Republicans will detonate the austerity bomb and force cruel across-the-board sequester
cuts on America. More and more Americans who weren’t paying attention
before are going to tune in to find out what can be done to stop the
madness.
And we have the answer for them: There is no debt crisis. Repeal the sequester.
But
we need your help to get our “Repeal the Sequester” message heard over
the pro-austerity propaganda that dominates the media.
At
the Campaign for America’s Future, we have been organizing fiercely for
weeks, pressuring Congress to repeal the sequester and laying out the
facts about what the real crisis is: jobs.
The Campaign for America’s Future
has taken the lead in spreading the message that there is no debt
crisis. The deficit is down 25% since 2009 in relation to the economy,
falling faster than at any time since the demobilization after World War
II.
And if there is no debt crisis, there is no need for sequester cuts, and no need for any other cuts.
Washington has already cut the deficit by $2.7 trillion since 2011, while failing to address the real crisis: jobs.
Join us in saying: enough. No more cuts. No more threats to Social Security and Medicare. No more job-killing austerity.
Just
stop the madness, before anyone else gets hurt. Repeal the sequester,
and then let’s get to back debating the best ways to end the jobs
crisis.
The American people want jobs, not austerity. We need your help to reach the politicians.
Sincerely,
Robert Borosage & Roger Hickey
