When Geraldo Rivera and other right-wing figures zeroed in on Trayvon Martin's hoodie as though it provided some sort of explanation or justification for the young man's tragic death, when right-wing websites began a smear campaign against the dead child's memory, they were playing right into a blame-the-victim script.

It's a script that is used almost always to reinforce white supremacist and patriarchal power structures. Wearing a hoodie is not a crime, UNLESS There is something ILLEGAL about staying warm. After all, I own and wear a hooded sweater, also, along with both my 20 something sons, I know there should be NO CRIME in merely staying warm--THIS IS WHY EVERY TRUE PATRIOTIC AMERICAN MUST STAND UP FOR TRUTH AND JUSTICE AND THE U.S. CONSTITUTION/BILL OF RIGHTS  BY STANDING  BESIDE THE FAMILY OF THE LATE TRAYVON MARTIN. Mounting Evidence Casts Doubt on George Zimmerman's Story

The funeral director who embalmed Trayvon Martin's body saw no bruising or cuts on his hands or any other evidence that he'd been in some kind of altercation. He saw a bullet wound in his upper chest. That's it. This fits with the video evidence from George Zimmerman's arrival at the police station a mere thirty-four minutes after the police arrived at the scene. Zimmerman also showed no signs of having been in any kind of altercation.

Of course we know from the testimony of several witnesses that an altercation took place. It just doesn't seem like it lasted very long or that either of them was able to do much damage to the other.    Read more
