Meaningful Sunday in the United States of America

The Supreme Court made a mess when it issued the Citizens United decision. And now progressives like you and me have a chance to clean it up.
After all, we do big things -- like fighting to protect Medicare and Social Security, demanding that the wealthy pay their fair share to solve our deficit problem, and rebuilding a battered manufacturing sector and a struggling middle class.

I've taken on tough progressive fights every day of my career -- and now I've signed on to a constitutional amendment that would effectively overturn the Citizens United decision (the one that gave unlimited First Amendment rights to corporations and let them spend unlimited secret money on our elections). I'm writing to invite you to sign on, too.

The amendment itself is simple -- it gives Congress and the states the power to pass commonsense campaign finance laws. If we pass it, we'll make it clear that, in America, democracy is not for sale.
You can bet the same corporate special interests that are preparing to spend hundreds of millions of dollars with their new powers under Citizens United -- and have already spent nearly $3 million attacking me in my re-election campaign -- will do anything to keep that ruling in place.

I am sharing this, so that something can be done. After all, with all the many attack ads attacking the Democratic  office holders of the 2012 elections, even before the 2011 election proved one thing--Too much money in elections only leads to Greed and Corruption, lies and deceptions. The attack ads were also prove that the 1% and 'Big Business' will say and do anything and everything to avoid paying their fair share of taxes, which is not 'Class Warfare'. After all, I am hoping and praying to rise from where I am to being able to afford to support all the causes that I can, which right now, not too many and I confess the financial support is minimal to what is actually needed---Ah, If only I could--I would do much more; which is why I am also including the following-->

Tomorrow marks the third anniversary of the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act becoming law and an important step to achieving equal pay for women.

That moment was proof positive of what can be accomplished with a Democratic President and a Democratic Majority.

It’s hard to believe how far the Tea Party has taken us away from making the kind of progress our country so greatly deserves. Republicans have launched an all-out assault on women, the middle class and our seniors in the name of protecting billionaires and Big Oil.

Midnight Tuesday marks the first FEC deadline of 2012 and the first since President Obama's State of the Union. The media and pundits will use our fundraising totals as a measure of our support for his agenda.

We are so close to hitting our grassroots goal of $500,000 -- a generous contribution from you could put us over the top.

If only these Tea Party Republicans would wake up and smell the coffee and realize all the many many American families, such as my own--after husband passed away, who are headed by the Mom, only some by choice, so many others because of circumstances beyond their control.
