As civil conflict and violence engulf the entire country of Syria, thousands of families are fleeing for safety.
At least 30,000 desperate civilians have crossed Syria’s heavily mined borders to escape the growing violence, seeking asylum in neighboring Jordan, Lebanon and Turkey.
Meanwhile, food, fuel and medical supplies are running out in Syrian towns and cities that have suffered heavy bombardment from the Syrian military — as President Bashar al-Assad continues to block aid from reaching people in need.
Right now, IRC teams are in Lebanon and Jordan to assess humanitarian needs and to provide emergency medical care, shelter and other aid to refugees who are camped out on the Syrian border in frigid winter temperatures. IRC experts on women’s protection will join this team shortly and will provide assistance to women survivors of sexual violence and abuse.
Please make an emergency donation today that will help us deliver critical aid to Syrian families.
The IRC is proud of our stewardship of your donations. We are one of the most effective and efficient humanitarian organizations in the world. More than 90 cents of every dollar we spend is used to support our programs.
Thank you for your generous emergency support. We will keep you updated on our efforts along the Syrian border during the weeks and months ahead.
I am sorry, I am not worthy to add anything to what already has been written. After all, what is happening to the Syrian citizen is criminal and tragic beyond mere words.
