Dear Readers, The Reason That I am passing on this email is--This-THIS IS WHY I SAY THANK GOD FOR SENATOR SHERROD BROWN--THE ONE THE ONLY SENATOR IN THE UNITED STATES SENATE WHO IS FOR OHIO. G
Senator Rob Portman voted AGAINST background checks, and now he's trying to rewrite history.
When the Senate voted on legislation to require criminal background checks for gun sales at gun shows, online, and in classified ads, Senator Portman voted against it. Instead, he supported an NRA-backed bill that would actually make it easier for dangerously mentally ill people to get guns.
But now Portman is trying to claim that he voted for background checks -- and we can't let him get away with it.
Will you write a letter to the editor of a newspaper in your area to call out Senator Portman's false claim and show your support for background checks?
Portman keeps telling reporters and his own constituents that he voted for a bill that would have improved the National Instant Background Check System. But the bill he voted for would have weakened it by invalidating millions of records already in the system – and would have made it easier for dangerously mentally ill people to buy guns.
Senator Portman can't have it both ways: He either stands with the 83% of Buckeyes who support criminal background checks for all gun sales,1 or he stands with the NRA.
We need to set the record straight.
Please send a letter to the editor today, and make sure Ohioans get the facts about Senator Portman's vote:
If we're going to achieve serious change in Washington, we need to keep the pressure on Congress and continue to hold leaders accountable for the safety of all Americans.
With your help, we can make sure our leaders remember that they answer to their constituents -- and that we won't forget how they voted.
Thanks for sending a message,
